Fascinating story of housebound author of Seabiscuit and Unbroken

Despite the fact that Laura Hillenbrand does not leave her house because of illness, her research and insight have taken her and us to race tracks and inside a world war. She cannot use microfiche for her research so she buys actual newspapers on eBay and sits down with them. What a way to connect with her subjects and their era.

And this remote way of working is not so unusual; NPR’s Fresh Air is mostly remote and Terry Gross is not in the same studio with her guests. I have met and worked with people on three continents for a decade by computer–nice to see I’m not alone either.
