Maya Angelou: Singing loudly and forever

Of the personal anecdotes I know about Maya Angelou, who died in her home, the common characteristic is generosity, which inspired us along with her written words and voice. When a friend needed a strong voice to draw support for a nonprofit helping victims of sexual abuse, Maya Angelou donated her time and timbre. A mutual friend connected us and Maya gave me the right to use the phrase “The caged bird sings” for a project helping girls in extreme circumstances. All of this in addition to those poems and appearances and speeches about overcoming racism; she is missed.20140529MAYA-slide-8GBP-largeHorizontal375
